Grease Star Jeff Conaway’s Death Ruled an Accident

Grease actor Jeff Conaway’s May 27 death has been ruled accidental and caused by major internal infections.

Autopsy results released Friday state that Los Angeles County coroners did not conduct a toxicology test because the actor, who died at age 60, had been hospitalized in the weeks prior to his passing, and his blood would have tested clean.

Hospitalized on May 11 for what was initially thought to be a prescription drug overdose, Conaway remained in a coma for over two weeks until his death. It was later revealed that he was suffering from pneumonia and sepsis, a dangerous blood infection. His sisters, nieces, nephews and ministers were by his side when he was taken off life support.

Chronicling his struggle with drugs, Conaway appeared on VH1′s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew Pinsky in 2008, where he sought treatment for addictions to cocaine, painkillers and alcohol.

In remembering his late friend, Conaway’s Grease costar John Travolta declared him a “wonderful and decent man.”

Added Conaway’s manager Phil Brock: “We know somewhere in heaven an angel is welcoming a ‘hickie from kenickie.’”
